Michael Roeder - The Catch Blues Band
"I have had the great pleasure of experiencing one of the most wonderful and talented up-and-coming musicians to come out of this area. Amanda McCoy is a singer, songwriter, bassist, guitarist, and all-around performer. There are a lot of so-called “bluesmen” in this area but she is the genuine article. I first met Amanda through a mutual friend when she was performing at a coffee house. After the gig I jammed with her until the wee hours of the morning. Amanda and I hit it off right away. She struck me as a combination of Janis Joplin, Rory Block and Stevie Ray Vaughan. As for her bass playing, it reminds me of Victor Wooten with a touch of Roscoe Beck. I suggested to Bruce Wheeler, founder of The Heritage Bluesfest in Wheeling, that he should have Amanda as the warm-up act for my band. And man did she play, the crowd loved her. After that great performance, I had Amanda sit in with us on other occasions, including the West Virginia Blues Society’s Blues Night Out where she threw her heart and soul into her music, again mesmerizing the audience with her talent. So watch out fellow bluesmen, there's a new sheriff in town and her name is Amanda McCoy."
